O Riso e a Faca follows Sérgio, a Portuguese engineer working in Guinea-Bissau, as he navigates the complexities of a post-colonial context marked by power dynamics, cultural tension, desire, and political ambiguity. The film is the recipient of multiple awards at Cannes and the Goya Awards. The film explores intimacy, privilege, and responsibility within a fragile social landscape shaped by historical and contemporary inequalities.
I had the pleasure of photographing one of the film’s premières, including a screening in Paris. My work focused on capturing the atmosphere of the event and the interaction between the film, its creators, and the audience, documenting cinema beyond the screen, at the moment it encounters the public.
